What is the square footage of the living space?
What is the same measurement of the storage space?
Thank you.

I am a direct decendant of Jan Maltese Schenck. My grandfather was William Schenck who died in Canada as a old man. I hope to visit the Schenck house someday. Thank you again. Marie Kirk, Yuma Az

Yes, Jim Boorstein and his company Traditional Line did indeed
move the house. They are terrific to work with and can be contacted at 212-627-3555 or restore@traditionalline.com.

I have a question about the renovation and installation of the Old Dutch house – was James Borstein involved in the project at any point?

Many thanks,

We have just returned from an afternoon at the Brooklyn Museum where we hightailed it up to the 4th floor to see the Schenck House and the other wonderful architural jewels that the Museum is preserving for us all. I did want to make a few suggestions. The lighting is so extremely dim in the displays (I imagine for preservation purposes), that it is difficult to appreciate the finishes used in the room. May I suggest that a
“decorator panel” (like the ones used by decorators to show their fabric, paint, flooring choices) be displayed outside the rooms themselves, so they can be better seen by the visitors in the somewhat improved light outside of the vignettes. If current paints, fabric, etc. used are commercially available, I would have little doubt that the manufacturer would be more than pleased to have it noted.
Also, it would be wonderful if there was a way that a map reflecting the location of the home’s previous existence could be displayed.
I was also thinking that some sort of an painting or drawing of the landscape shown through the windows of the property would better put the house in geographical context – in other words, if there was a photo, etc. of shrubs, trees, blue sky appearing through the windows that a viewer could see while looking into the room it would make it seem more real than just dimly lit & curtained windows.
Well, just thought that I would send along these suggestions for consideration. Thank you so very much for your efforts in saving some of our history.
Regards,
Sharon Durr
