The blog is here to stay as an archival record of the goings on at the museum. The images will be here for some time to come and are linked from the Goodbye Coney Island? webpage.

I hope this group of photos will remain on the Museum’s Blog for some time. The images are an important part of the life of Coney Island. Thank you for accepting my image (egulvision), Thunderbolt final day as one of those chosen for web view.

Just to clarify, the museum had an exhibit called Goodbye Coney Island?, which closed on April 6, 2008. The physical exhibit was comprised of 50 images from the Brooklyn Museum’s holdings. Patrick, the exhibition’s curator, featured several photographs from taken by the public (and not part of our collection) here in this blog, but they were not part of the exhibition at the museum – it was an online feature only.

Many thanks,

Shelley

The Thunderbolt was a great ride through the years and it was sad to see it go. I’m thrilled that “Classic Coney Rides” was such a great success. If/when it goes on Exhibition at the Museum, unfortunately I will not be able to attend as I’m working on a photojournalistic project at the Marine Science Center at Ponce de Leon Inlet in Florida. If there is a physical exhibit, I’ll have my son represent me and perhaps document the work. If not possible and the Museum puts out a book on the images at this exhibit, I’ll have him pick one up for me. Thank you for the opportunity to present my image of the Thunderbolt on its last day to the world. I sincerely appreciate it. Good Luck and all the best!

This is a very dynamic and important piece of Brooklyn’s history. Thank you for allowing us to participate.

Coney Island may change, but through images and caring individuals will always be know as “the playground of the world”.
