That’s great news – it works well for us. Thanks!

There’s actually a relatively new software feature called “guided access” that comes standard with iPod, iPhones and iPads that allows hardware buttons to be disengaged for a period of time. This might be easier than covering home buttons when it comes to iPod tours

Hi Sarah,

We don’t use the ipod touches for tours because of a lot of these issues. Most museums are using cases to lock down the home button if they implement them.

We are considering using iPod touch devices for our audio guide at our small museum in MI. I’m having some of the same issues that it appears you had in 2008.

Hi Kain,

To my understanding, Apple still has not provided a museum mode for ipod touch devices or iphones. I believe most museums are utilizing cases that cover the home buttons as a solution.

I work for a Museum in Belgium, and I wanted to know a little bit more about all this stuff, because we are thinking to give iPods to our visitors during the visit. Some advice ?

I am intrigued by this :”Our solution is not perfect, but it’s not difficult to accomplish and if you drop us a line we can point you to some existing documentation on the web that helped us.”

You wouldn’t mind doing a little bit of pointing, would you?
