The MET is going to attempt to program a solution based on our machine tags, which should generate some captions, then once that is done, they will be posting instructions via the Flickr group for the others. Stay tuned.

Thank you again for all your hard work.

I had not realized that the Met was only captioning on-demand. That explains why nothing’s been captioned yet from them.

How can I (as a Wiki editor) request captioning from the Metropolitan so that a given image can be used on Wikipedia?

Thank you very much.

I’ve been thinking about ways that Wikipedia can be used to amplify the information contained within museums around artworks.

In the end, though, I’m not convinced that everyone actually thinks that’s a good idea. But, in the end, Wikipedia is a place that exists right now where we could share all sorts of information about art.

Could the final goal be a collaborative world wide catalog raisonee of all art?

Your karma should be well primed for your next lovely experiment – & we’ll all be waiting to jump on board :)

I’m wondering if tomorrow’s post will have a “what’s next” section, with ideas about how to keep going.

I salute the BM team for being brave enough to take on WLA in the first place, for giving other institutions the chance to be involved and pulling out all the stops to see it through.

Your insights into working across communities are really important ones. The bottom line seems to be that it’s important to go on a few dates before getting engaged.

And finally 3 cheers for Shelley and Erin!!!

I think the problem was users are free to name or tag the pictures.

If they can follow the rule of giving the title/tag based on the accession number, the by using Flickr API, it is possible to integrate the process automatically.

But it is a great effort and marvelous result!
