One thing I’ve always thought about that book is that it “holds” two or three story lines that could be made into a movie. It’s time for that period in America to get the attention of Hollywood. One version could just be the Huey Newton trial (Moore’s chapters devoted to that are fascinating – and was Huey set up or was he really guilty?) Hollywood, listen up.

I love the way Moore has “domesticated” his elevator, given the dumb thing some culture, some class, some mystery. Going up and down without a story line is so dumb.

I shared it with one of the scholars we work with here at the Brooklyn Historical Society who’s written a couple books on the Black Panthers. He said he LOVES “A Special Rage” and he’s already sent this link to Black Panthers scholars all over the country. Let Mr. Moore know he might be getting some calls.

Congratulations to Gilbert on his writing. And congratulations to the Brooklyn Museum for supporting this fine gentleman. I’ll be sure to wander around to the freight elevator next time I visit.
