For these units we had to have custom brackets fabricated that would cover the home button and the power button, but would otherwise leave the units free to be picked up and caseless (you can kind of see this in the images). For the rest of the equipment (alarms, stands) we just copied the Apple store. We’ve linked to the alarms in the post and the stands we fabricated in house based on the Apple store design after some sleuthing.

More recently, we’ve mounted the ipads using mounts from a company called Sprocket. I’ve outlined issues with those and linked to that product on another post.

Your article is very helpful. I was interested in how you secured the iPad on the mount? You mentioned using the same alarm system that the Apple stores use. Also, what type of case or enclosure did you use for the iPad once it was secure on the shelf?
Thanks!

It’s a complicated and each situation is going to be different. I’ve outlined some of my feelings in this post, so that might be worth looking at. You might also look at the Museum Mobile project – they post a lot of good info as well. Good luck with your project!

I´ve been reading the post you worte about mobile website, apps, etc. It´s really interesting.
I live in Argentina, and i´am investigating the posibility to install apps for museums at home.
What do you think? It works for you the app world?
Thanks.

They did find, however, that the info was heavily utilized, and it gave them some great extra visitor knowledge about what sort of “extra information” people would like to engage with during a show. You can read about the wikipop metrics on Shelly’s blog here> […]
